Albi is the beautiful departmental town for Tarn - the equivalent of a county town in the UK.
Albi has a fascinating medieval history from the Cathar Wars a magnificent architectural heritage and a very strong artistic side. It is the home of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum and Gallery of Modern Art.

Old Albi shopping centre has narrow streets full of small and varied shops and include designer names as well as many unusual and different shops to browse around and spend in.

Bastide towns and villages litter the hillsides. Cordes sur Ciel is possibly the most popular but we have 4 of “Les Plus Belles Villes de France” within half an hour’s drive of Amistanço.
There are weekly markets in all the towns selling good  local produce. Frequent Brocante Foires (antique and household items) and Vide-Greniers (car-boot sales) take place around the region and here you can still find some good bargains.

Musically diverse, classical, folk, jazz and rock concerts regularly take place all over the area.
In Gaillac, Friday night is “Apero concert night”. These inexpensive concerts take place every Friday evening throughout the summer months and on an occasional basis at other times of the year. Local vignerons provide complimentary wines to savour during the concert.

Lautrec with its historic connections to the artist's family is also famous for its Rose garlic, reputed to be the best in the world. There is an annual festival held in August to celebrate the new produce. It takes place in the centre of the village, which is still filled with intact medieval streets and buildings, closing up around the 14th century church. Above this you can climb one of the narrow streets to a functioning windmill, and follow a path where the local medicinal plants are labelled, to the hill peak with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area.
